How do I apply for a work-type residence permit in Shanghai?
1. Submit the original valid passport and visa;
2. Submit the completed "Visa/Stay Permit/Residence Permit Application Form"; the applicant must go to the city's exit-entry administration department to take photos free of charge and the applicant who meets the conditions of the proxy needs to submit a coloured photo of the document (recent photo within six months, white background, two inches, bareheaded, without modification, photographic paper prints, and without smudges);
3. Submit a health certificate issued by a Chinese entry-exit inspection and quarantine department within six months (exempted for those under 18 and over 70 years old);
4. Submit an official letter of application (indicating the unified social credit code);
5. Provide one of the following proofs of a foreigner's work permit:
(1) Holding a Foreigner's Work Permit, submit the original and copy of the permit as well as a printout of the information in the QR code;
(2) Holders of Class L "Shanghai Residence Card" B card submit its original and photocopy;
(3) Personnel engaged in commercial cultural performances need to provide the Decision on Granting Administrative Licence (准予行政许可决定书 in Chinese) issued by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism or the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism;
(4) Personnel working at sea should submit the original copy of the Permit to Work in Offshore Oil Operation.
